Front end project Phase 2

Custom rad and e-fan install

This Phase is the heart of the project. Without this, the rest is either not possible, or not worth wild

Any modded Turbo II should really have an upgraded rad. When Summer hit this year, I was running up to 215F on hot days. So it was time for me to get one. I could have just mounted one in the stock location, but what fun would that be? :). This is where the project really begins.

I Started off by getting a Rad from K2RD. I got a Perma cool 16" high performance fan and a black magic adjustable thermostat from a local store.

First step mount the fan to the rad. I didn't like that zap tie things the ran came with, so I made some mounts with some scrap alum. (putting foam on the back)

The whole idea of this project was to tilt the rad back 4" or so at the top. Giving me room to run my intake and FMIC piping around the rad. So here is it. I made some steel brackets to hold it back. The rad at the top bolt holes is back around 4.5"s. It's about 1" back at the lower bolt holes. This gives the fan about an inch of clearance at the engine pulley. It also holds the rad also straight up and down, which should aid in cooling compared to the angled stock rad.

I mounted the black magic adjustable thermostat to the front of the rad using the zap things that came with the fan. The copper wire goes into the upper rad hose. The thermostat is then wired to the fan, to ground, and to a manual on switch. a power wire goes straight to the fan from the battery (through a fuse!).

The stock upper hose fit fine, I just had to cut it down 4 or 5 inches. The heater hose also fit with some trimming. The stock lower hose however didn't. This was the only "problem" I ran into. With a trip to the local store (in another car :) ) another one with the same angle but longer was found off the wall for another car.
